Emergency crews at Scottsdale Airport are working to extract one person from the crash site following a tragic accident on Monday afternoon.
A midsize plane that had just landed at Scottsdale Airport in Arizona veered off the runway and crashed into a business jet on the tarmac, leading to one fatality and injuring three others, according to authorities.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:45 p.m., when a Learjet 35A went off the runway after landing and subsequently collided with a parked Gulfstream 200 business jet, as reported by the Federal Aviation Administration. Both jets are classified as midsize, and the Gulfstream was located on private property, explained Kelli Kuester, the aviation planning and outreach coordinator for the Scottsdale Airport.
One person was confirmed dead at the scene, while two others were transported to local trauma centers in critical condition. Another individual was taken to a hospital in stable condition, and one person remained to be extricated from the wreckage late Monday evening, as stated by Capt. Dave Folio of the Scottsdale Fire Department during a news conference.
In response to the crash, all flights were halted and runways were shut down. An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the F.A.A.
The cause of the Learjet 35A going off the runway remains unclear.
This is a developing story.
