Hornets Evaluate Options After Trade Rescinded Due to Williams' Medical Issues
The Hornets are considering their next steps after their trade involving Williams was rescinded due to health issues. They are exploring options to challenge the evaluation process by the Lakers.
The Hornets are currently evaluating their next steps following the recent rescindment of a trade with the Lakers. Reports indicate that they are weighing avenues to challenge the Lakers' evaluation process or seek alternative resolutions with the league office.
Last week, the Hornets traded Williams for Lakers rookie Dalton Knecht, along with Cam Reddish, a 2030 pick swap, and Los Angeles' 2031 first-round pick. However, just two days after the trade deadline, the deal was rescinded due to Williams' failed medical exam.
Sources indicate that Williams' physical examination revealed multiple health issues. Throughout his three seasons in the league, the center has missed 60% of the games, primarily due to separate injuries involving his back and foot.
Since the trade deadline has passed, the trade cannot be amended to address any new medical information discovered by the Lakers in their assessment of Williams.
As a result, the players involved in the trade have returned to their original teams. Knecht is expected to participate in the Lakers' upcoming game against the Utah Jazz on Monday night.
In a statement released on Saturday night, the Hornets expressed their excitement to welcome Williams back to the team.
