The New York Jets are considering a trade for wide receiver Cooper Kupp as Davante Adams' future remains uncertain amid Aaron Rodgers' potential departure.
The New York Jets have received an offer involving wide receiver Cooper Kupp and a 2025 fourth-round pick.
Analyst Rosenblatt suggests this trade could be a "trade of convenience," especially if Aaron Rodgers does not return to the Jets, which would likely lead to Davante Adams' departure as well.
Despite Adams still demonstrating skill—with 41 receptions for 576 yards and six touchdowns in the last six games of 2024—he carries a hefty non-guaranteed cap hit of $35.6 million, making renegotiation a crucial factor in his future with the Jets.
Currently, Adams holds the cards as he is under contract with the Jets for two more seasons, and if he refuses to restructure, they might have to release him, leaving a significant void at WR2.
Meanwhile, Kupp, who has publicly announced the Rams are looking to trade him, could be a fitting solution. Although Kupp has had health issues in the past three seasons, he was a star in 2021, leading the league in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns.
The Jets have not communicated with Adams since hiring head coach Aaron Glenn and GM Darren Mougey, focusing instead on building their coaching staff. The future decisions involving Adams are closely tied to Rodgers' status.
Pairing Adams with Garrett Wilson could be a magical combination if they stay together, but if not, a Kupp-Wilson partnership remains a strong backup option.
