Investigation Underway at Temple University After Students Impersonate ICE Agents
Police at Temple University in Philadelphia are investigating an incident involving two students who allegedly impersonated U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at a campus business. The incident occurred over the weekend as part of what was reported on FOX 29 in Philadelphia.
According to reports, the students were seen wearing shirts with "ICE" and "POLICE" written in white lettering, while a third individual recorded the event. The impersonation took place at Insomnia Cookies on Cecil B. Moore Avenue on Saturday night.
The suspects attempted to enter Johnson and Hardwick Residence Hall earlier that night but were denied access by security personnel, as the investigation reveals.
Following a preliminary investigation, a student identified as 22-year-old Aidan Steigelmann was arrested and placed on interim suspension. He has been charged with impersonating a public servant. It remains unclear whether he is a current or former student at Temple University.
Temple police expressed their concern regarding the incident, stating, "It is deeply troubling and disappointing to know behavior like this reportedly occurred on our campus."
On Tuesday, the campus safety division updated the community, confirming that all three individuals involved have been identified. The suspects consist of two students currently under interim suspension and one former student no longer affiliated with the university.
The campus public safety division reiterated that impersonating law enforcement officers is a crime, and such behavior will not be tolerated. Additionally, they confirmed that neither Temple's Department of Public Safety nor the Philadelphia Police Department received reports of any federal ICE agents being present on campus at the time.
