Netanyahu calls Trump’s Gaza takeover proposal remarkable
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised Donald Trump's proposal for a U.S. takeover of Gaza, describing it as a remarkable idea for the region's future amid ongoing conflicts.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the country is holding up 'remarkably' amid the ongoing war during an interview on "Hannity."
Netanyahu praised President Donald Trump's proposal for a U.S. takeover of Gaza, calling it a "remarkable idea" that should be "pursued," "examined," and "done." He expressed optimism that it would lead to a different future for everyone.
During a news conference at the White House, Trump suggested that the United States "will take over" the Gaza Strip, level it, and rebuild it. He also mentioned the idea of temporarily relocating Palestinians to neighboring countries while reconstruction takes place. However, this suggestion has been rejected by two key U.S. Middle Eastern allies.
Netanyahu voiced support for allowing Gazans who wish to leave to do so, stating, "They can leave. They can then come back." He emphasized the importance of rebuilding Gaza, asserting that it was the first good idea he had heard regarding the situation.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed to reporters that Palestinians would be "temporarily" relocated due to the Gaza Strip being a "demolition site." She highlighted the dire conditions in Gaza, mentioning the lack of running water and electricity, stating that the president aims for these individuals to live in peace.
U.S. special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, estimated it would take at least 10 to 15 years for the Gaza Strip to become "habitable" again as reconstruction efforts evolve.
Netanyahu reiterated Israel's commitment to dismantling Hamas' military and governing capabilities, stressing the need to prevent any future threats to the Jewish State. He noted that Hamas’s recent attack in 2023 resulted in approximately 1,200 Israeli deaths and over 250 hostages.
A fragile ceasefire is currently in place between Israel and Hamas, with hostages continuing to be released after a year in captivity. Netanyahu remarked, "So far, we've decimated most of Hamas' military power... and we'll make sure that it's not there when this war ends."
He also commented on how Trump's potential return to the White House has influenced the Middle East environment, suggesting it has elevated the spirits of those desiring a prosperous and peaceful region.
