Elon Musk's Staff Member Resigns Amid Controversy Over Racist Social Media Posts
Marko Elez, an employee from Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency, resigned after being linked to a social media account promoting racism and eugenics. The account made several derogatory posts about Indians and immigrants, raising concerns as the 2024 presidential election approaches.
One of Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency employees, Marko Elez, resigned Thursday amid growing inquiries regarding his connections to a social media account promoting racism and eugenics theories.
Elez, 25, was identified as the engineer who gained access to the Treasury's "top-secret" payment system, which oversees social security and tax distributions.
While assisting his billionaire boss in reducing federal inefficiencies, the Wall Street Journal reported that Elez may have utilized a private social media account to advocate for "eugenic immigration policy."
One of the now-deleted posts from September stated, "You could not pay me to marry outside of my ethnicity." Another post called to "Normalize Indian hate," which reportedly targeted Indian workers in Silicon Valley.
Upon inquiries about Elez's association with the account, Trump administration spokesperson Karoline Leavitt confirmed his resignation.
The controversial account, @nullllptr, made several derogatory comments about Indians and immigration, particularly as the 2024 presidential election approaches.
In a post seemingly aimed at Indian software engineers amidst Musk's H1B fight, the account claimed, "99% of Indian H1Bs will be replaced by slightly smarter LLMs, they're going back don't worry guys."
A July entry noted, "Just for the record, I was racist before it was cool." In commenting on the Israel-Gaza war in July, a post stated, "I would not mind at all if Gaza and Israel were both wiped off the face of the Earth."
Reports suggest Elez and his colleagues created chaos while gaining access to sensitive federal databases, with allegations of confrontational behavior towards security personnel.
Elez has experience working for Musk's SpaceX, Starlink, and X companies while focusing on artificial intelligence.
The Daily Beast attempted to contact Elez for further comments.
Additionally, three federal employee unions have filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, alleging illegal access to government records, according to The Guardian.
Recent reports indicate that Musk’s plans may involve transferring sensitive information from the Department of Education into an artificial intelligence portal to identify inefficiencies.
As news suggested DOGE would assist in "upgrading" the Federal Aviation's air traffic control system, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton criticized their lack of age and experience, stating, "Most of them aren't old enough to rent a car."
