Abuse in Politics Worse than Ever According to Kim Leadbeater MP
Kim Leadbeater MP has stated that the level of abuse MPs face is now worse than during her sister Jo Cox's murder, highlighting a decline in respectful political discourse.
Kim Leadbeater, the sister of murdered MP Jo Cox, has expressed concerns that Members of Parliament are now experiencing a higher level of abuse than during the time of her sister’s tragic death.
Jo Cox was killed in her Batley and Spen constituency by a terrorist prior to the 2016 Brexit referendum.
Despite various calls for reform following her murder, Leadbeater highlighted a significant decline in the public's ability to "disagree well".
In an interview on Nick Robinson's Political Thinking podcast, she stated that "the level of abuse and nastiness" within political discussions has reached unprecedented levels.
As the current Labour MP for her late sister’s constituency, Leadbeater noted that her attempt to propose a bill to legalise assisted dying has subjected her to a level of abuse she had never previously encountered.
