Mike Doyle has been appointed as the new Deputy Fire Chief in Stouffville, overseeing the Support Services division and bringing 24 years of firefighting and administrative experience.
Stouffville has hired Mike Doyle as its newest Deputy Fire Chief. Working under Fire Chief William Snowball, he will manage the Support Services division within the Town's Fire and Emergency Services department.
Support Services oversees emergency management, fire prevention, public education, and administrative functions. The division ensures compliance with legislated requirements, including community risk assessments and emergency preparedness, while also enforcing the fire code and related municipal bylaws.
In his capacity as Deputy Fire Chief, Doyle will coordinate procurement, develop policy, and lead fire cause investigations. He will also participate in project management, development planning reviews, and the preparation of Fire and Emergency Services budgets.
Doyle comes to Stouffville from Vaughan, where he served as Deputy Fire Chief of Administration and Support Services. He began his 24-year career as a volunteer front-line firefighter and rose through the ranks, holding positions such as Captain, District Chief, Assistant Deputy Chief, Deputy Chief, and Acting Fire Chief.
Chief Snowball introduced Doyle during the Feb. 5 Council meeting. "[Deputy Chief Doyle's] journey has been marked by a deep understanding of the challenges faced by our team, as well as a strong ability to navigate complex labour relations -- ensuring a positive and efficient work environment," Snowball said. "With a wealth of experience in both the operational and administrative aspects of the fire department, Mike is highly respected by his peers and colleagues alike," Snowball added. "We are confident he will continue to lead with integrity and excellence in his new role as Deputy Fire Chief."
Doyle's first official day on the job was Jan. 31. "It's great to have you here. I've heard a few comments from colleagues, and I was wondering how the heck we got you," Mayor Iain Lovatt said during the meeting. "It's a pleasure to welcome you... and I think I speak on behalf of Council in saying we're glad you're here."
A Certified Emergency Management Coordinator (CEMC), Doyle has been commended for his strong leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic while chairing a citywide Operational Task Force in Vaughan. He holds a Fire and Emergency Services Diploma from Humber College and has completed advanced studies in labour relations. He is currently pursuing Public Administration and Governance at Toronto Metropolitan University.
"The reputation of Whitchurch-Stouffville Fire and Emergency Services is second to none. The decision to join this team of professionals was one of excitement," Doyle said in comments to Bullet Point News. "Under the leadership of Chief Snowball, I look forward to helping navigate the challenges of one of the fastest growing communities in the GTHA."
