Macca's to cut popular menu items sparking disappointment among Australians

AI-Generated Summary

Macca's is set to remove nine menu items, including popular salads and wraps, sparking disappointment among customers. The changes come as the fast-food chain introduces new items.

Macca's is axing a string of popular menu items, including a "healthier" option beloved by fitness fans, leaving many Aussies disappointed.

The fast-food giant will remove nine products from February 12, including three salads, two chicken wraps, and grape tomatoes.

A popular chicken burger, toastie, and kids strawberry yoghurt pouch are also on the chopping block.

While the burger chain is adding nine new menu items, including four new wraps and a range of Biscoff treats, some have aired their frustrations at the change.

Melbourne food blogger Nectorious Papi initially leaked the news in a video after being tipped off by a McDonald's worker, sharing an image sent to Australian employees of franchise owners detailing every "menu rationalisation".

"Next week we are saying goodbye to menu items, don't come for me," the anonymous Macca's staffer wrote. "It's so we can make room for some exciting new products."

The full list of axed items includes the Aioli Chicken McWrap, the Grilled Chicken Deluxe, and the Caesar Chicken McWrap.

The Classic and Caesar Chicken Salad, along with the Garden Salad, are also being removed along with the BBQ Bacon and Cheese Toastie, Grape Tomatoes, and the Yoplait Petit Miam Strawberry Yoghurt.

McDonald's told news.com.au that the changes to its menu come after analysing customer habits and spending.

"We are always listening to our customers, and while we know these changes may disappoint some people, we want our customers to know that we'll always listen to their feedback and ensure our menu offers up plenty of great choices," a spokesperson said.

"Our insights and experience have shown that Aussies are coming to our restaurants for the classics they've known and loved since their first visit to Macca's."

While Macca's states the items have been cut because Aussies are buying its "delicious beef or chicken burgers like the Big Mac or McCrispy", Nectorious said it was a blow to those who are health conscious.

"I understand the salads wouldn't be their biggest seller but I feel bad for those that may want something healthier on the go," he told news.com.au. "A lot of my followers are upset about the Aioli Chicken McWrap being discontinued the most."

The popular wrap had featured heavily on social media among those in the fitness scene, with many raving about the fact it was "high in protein" and contained 450 calories.

Social media users had their own thoughts. "Noooooo not the Caesar McWrap that's the only thing I could eat," one commented online.

"Aioli wrap is so good though, and why removing kids yoghurt... some kids don't like fries," another agreed.

As someone else raged: "Not them getting rid of nearly all their 'healthier' options. All they have now is the apples."

For those who are "excited" about the new additions launching next week, these included a Brekkie McWrap as well as a Classic and Spicy Chicken McWrap and a Chicken Snack Wrap made using half a McCrispy Patty.

Macca's is also adding Hot Cross Buns, in both traditional and chocolate chip varieties, for a limited time, and a Biscoff McFlurry, Shake, and Coffee Frappe.

There's also a Grimace Tumbler while stock lasts, that many were frothing about.

"The tumbler is so cute," one wrote. "How much will the tumbler cost?" asked another, as another added: "I NEED THAT TUMBLER."

Mostly though, Aussies were downright gutted their "favourite" item had been culled, with some even threatening to boycott the popular fast-food outlet.

"NOT CAESAR NEVER EATING MACCA'S AFTER THIS," one raged. "NOT THE GRILLED CHICKEN BURGER," another vented. As one shared: "I'm excited about the Brekkie McWrap and I'm sad to see the BBQ, bacon and cheese toastie going out the door."
