Family mourns the loss of vibrant mother in Melbourne tragedy
The family of Rachel McKenna, a 35-year-old mother who was allegedly killed by someone known to her, has paid heartfelt tribute to her memory.
Ms McKenna was found dead inside a home on Ormand Rd, Ascot Vale, around 4pm on Friday.
Her family described her as a "devoted mother," sharing that "her death was an unnecessary tragedy." Her brother-in-law, Ylia Trotter, expressed their grief on social media, stating, "One we never dreamt would impact our family."
"Our beloved Rachel was tragically taken from us on Friday. She was a big sister, a loved daughter, a doting aunty, and a dear friend to many. Most importantly, she was a completely devoted mother to her 7-year-old," he added.
Mr Trotter further remarked, "She was generous, vibrant, loyal, and looked forward to many adventures with her precious son. Our darling girl is already so missed, forever leaving a hole in our hearts and lives."
The family has set up a GoFundMe to support Ms McKenna's son, which has already raised over $26,000.
Mr Trotter also advocated for action against domestic violence, stating, "Something must be done to stop violence against women in this country."
Authorities are investigating Ms McKenna's death. They are also looking into a separate incident involving a man found critically injured on the Princes Freeway at Little River, approximately 44kms west of Melbourne, two hours after Ms McKenna's body was discovered.
