Australian Islamic Councils call for government action against Trump's proposal
The AFIC urges the Australian government to denounce Trump's remarks and calls for unconditional recognition of Palestine to uphold international law.
The Australian Federation of Islamic Councils (AFIC) has joined multiple voices of condemnation, urging the Australian government to denounce comments made by former President Trump.
AFIC president Dr Rateb Jneid described such proposals as unacceptable and catastrophic. He stated, “They disregard international laws and the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people,” in a recent statement.
Dr Jneid further asserted, “We call upon the Australian Government to respond with more than mere disapproval. It is time for Australia to unconditionally recognise the state of Palestine and oppose any actions that undermine its sovereignty.”
Additionally, he emphasised that the AFIC demands the government to “act decisively” and with “moral clarity.”
He concluded, “[Recognising the state of Palestine] is not just symbolic -- it is a crucial step towards upholding international law and supporting global justice.”
