Knicks Trade Jericho Sims to Bucks in Three-Team Deal
The Knicks are trading one of their young centers, Jericho Sims, as part of a three-team deal. SNY's Ian Begley confirms that the Knicks will send Sims to the Bucks as part of a trade that also includes the Washington Wizards, which involves Khris Middleton and Kyle Kuzma.
Begley reported Wednesday that there was some interest from the Houston Rockets in Sims, however, there wasn't a significant market for him.
In return, the Knicks are acquiring Delon Wright along with cash considerations from the Bucks, as reported by ESPN's Shams Charania.
Sims, who is 26 years old, is owed $2 million in the final year of his contract and will now provide valuable center depth for the Bucks.
After being drafted in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draft (58th overall), Sims played in 41 games (five starts) during his rookie season. He had his best season the following year, participating in 52 games (16 starts), while averaging 3.4 points on 77 percent shooting, along with 4.7 rebounds and nearly one block per game.
Additionally, Sims showcased his talent by participating in the 2023 Slam Dunk contest; however, he struggled to find his place on the Knicks roster. With Mitchell Robinson solidifying his position as the starting center and nearing a return from injury, Sims became an expendable asset, particularly due to his reduced role off of Tom Thibodeau's bench.
This season, Sims has also faced competition with the acquisition of Precious Achiuwa from the Raptors, who provides a power forward/center combination off the bench. Furthermore, the addition of Karl-Anthony Towns and the emergence of rookie Ariel Hukporti have limited Sims' appearances this year. In just 39 games (five starts), Sims has recorded career-lows in minutes (10.8), field goal percentage (61 percent), and points (1.6).
