A small jet's landing gear failure led to a deadly crash at Scottsdale Airport, resulting in one death and multiple injuries, with the FAA and NTSB launching investigations.
At least one person has died and four others have been injured after a small jet's landing gear failed, causing it to veer off the runway and collide with a larger jet at Scottsdale Airport in Arizona on Monday afternoon.
Scottsdale Fire Capt. Dave Folio reported that one person was trapped in the small jet following the crash, but rescuers managed to free them from the wreckage. The individual was then transported to a trauma center in critical condition.
According to Folio, another person was also taken to a trauma center in critical condition, while one victim is currently stable with non-life-threatening injuries. A fifth person declined treatment.
Kelli Kuester, the Aviation outreach and planning coordinator for Scottsdale Airport stated, "Our thoughts and prayers are going out to everybody in the aviation community that this affects today."
The plane originated from Austin, Texas, as confirmed by an airport spokesperson.
Officials announced that the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is currently investigating the accident.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) verified to Fox News Digital that the crash involved a Learjet 35A that went off the runway after landing and collided with a Gulfstream 200 business jet on the airport ramp at around 2:45 p.m. local time on February 10.
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes expressed her devastation regarding the incident, stating, "I'm devastated to hear that a fatal plane crash has occurred at Scottsdale Airport. My thoughts are with the victims of this terrible accident and their loved ones."
Scottsdale Mayor Lisa Borowsky shared her condolences, saying, "Today, Scottsdale sadly experienced an aircraft accident at our airport. Based on the information provided thus far, it appears at least one person is dead after two jets collided on the runway at Scottsdale Airport. We are closely monitoring the situation and will update the community as we have further information."
She continued, "On behalf of the city of Scottsdale, we offer our deepest condolences to those involved in the accident and for those who have been taken to our trauma center for treatment. We will keep all affected by this tragedy in our prayers."
The airport confirmed the accident, stating that the "Fire Department is on scene assessing the situation," and noted that Scottsdale Airport's runway is currently closed.
Folio advised that the runway will remain closed for the "foreseeable future." He thanked the first responder community for their prompt action during this crisis.
