Fox News senior White House correspondent Jacqui Heinrich reports on President Donald Trump's latest executive order aimed at reducing the federal workforce.
An Oregon congresswoman, Representative Maxine Dexter, is determined to protect federal employees from potential retaliation by introducing new legislation focused on federal workers standing against Elon Musk's alleged overreach of government agencies.
The proposed "Stop Musk Act" states, "No Federal employee may be retaliated against, including any retaliation occurring on or after the date of the enactment of this Act, for resisting, circumventing, or preventing Elon Musk or individuals he oversees from taking unlawful or unconstitutional actions relating to Federal agencies."
This legislation addresses what Dexter claims is Musk's recent control over the U.S. Department of Treasury's payment system, which she alleges threatens the privacy of Oregon residents and disrupts critical operations at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), endangering millions.
Dexter asserts that Musk undermines efforts to combat the climate crisis through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). She emphasizes that under the proposed legislation, federal employees who oppose Musk's actions would be safeguarded against any present or future retaliation.
The introduction of this bill comes amidst claims that Musk, alongside the Department of Government Efficiency, has enforced mandatory leave for USAID staff.
Dexter states, "The world's richest man should not have the power to unilaterally dismantle the federal government and the critical services it provides Oregonians. Federal employees are at the forefront of fighting Elon Musk's power grab, and we must protect them."
President Trump remains supportive of Musk's initiatives, notably his plans regarding the DOGE cryptocurrency, and has suggested that substantial fraud and waste can be uncovered in various federal departments. His recent comments indicate a push to eliminate mismanagement.
As Trump and Musk encourage federal workers to resign voluntarily, offering them compensation until September 30, Dexter has voiced her concern for the thousands of federal employees in Oregon expressing anxiety over agency cuts.
Dexter concluded, "We must stay loud. We must stand tight. We must press on."
