Consumers' Research launches a campaign against Cleveland Clinic for allegedly prioritizing woke politics over patient care, with plans for ads and digital outreach advocating for a return to patient-focused services.
Consumers' Research, a leading non-profit dedicated to consumer information, is launching a campaign targeting the Cleveland Clinic over what it calls the organization's history of prioritizing woke politics over patient care.
The campaign, named "Cleveland Clinic Exposed," aims to engage the public with the question: "Is Cleveland Clinic the wokest hospital in America?" It will feature an ad titled "Exposed," which is set to run in Ohio during the Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Toronto Raptors game.
The 30-second commercial poses several critical questions: "They prioritize care based on skin color. Perform child sex changes. Push transgender propaganda on vulnerable kids. Insert DEI into everything they do."
Furthermore, it states: "And spend millions on climate activism. The CEO admits it: Healthcare is only a part of their mission. Cleveland Clinic. Focused on a political agenda. Not what's best for patients."
The campaign will also have a presence on ClevelandClinicExposed.com, with mobile billboards appearing outside the Ohio state capitol building, Cleveland Clinic main campus, and the Florida state capitol building.
Additionally, a targeted digital campaign is planned, alongside a "woke alert" to encourage the clinic to "stop injecting politics into patient care."
In one alert, it states, "Attention Floridians, Cleveland Clinic opened a sex change clinic in your backyard."
The ad references a letter from Cleveland Clinic's CEO Tom Mihaljevic, who suggested that healthcare services are not the only focus of the organization. His letter stated, "Providing high-quality healthcare is only a part of our mission. We have an obligation to uplift the many communities we call home."
Cleveland Clinic has faced accusations of promoting a "woke" agenda, including a complaint from the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty about race-based discrimination and segregation of patients.
Moreover, the clinic's website contains multiple posts supporting climate initiatives, including plans for "greening" its operating rooms.
In 2022, the clinic appointed Jacqui Robertson as chief of diversity and inclusion and announced efforts to further diversity across the health system. Robertson emphasized that diversity must be embedded in all operations.
In a June 2023 post, the clinic outlined "How To Support a Child Who's Questioning Their Gender Identity," which has since been deleted, and labeled racism as a "public health crisis" in a different press release.
A Cleveland Clinic spokesperson countered the campaign, claiming that the advertisement contains false statements and asserted that their services do not discriminate based on race, gender, or other categories.
Will Hild, executive director of Consumers' Research, commented, "By its own shocking words and deeds, Cleveland Clinic has quite possibly become the wokest hospital in America." He criticized the clinic for prioritizing woke objectives over the needs of patients and called for a reversal in focus on affordable quality care.
