Border Patrol chief Michael Banks announced Thursday that illegal border-crossing attempts have decreased by 90% since President Trump took office less than three weeks ago.
This substantial decline serves as evidence that the Biden administration could have achieved similar results over the past four years if they had chosen to prioritize border security.
Throughout the previous year and during the presidential campaign, Democrats attributed the border crisis to Republicans for not passing a supposed "bipartisan" bill that would have exacerbated the situation.
Shortly after being sworn in, Trump took decisive action by declaring a national emergency at the border, ending "catch and release," reinstating the "Remain in Mexico" policy, resuming wall construction, and deploying 10,000 US troops to enhance border security.
Within a week, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, under the leadership of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, began apprehending and deporting illegal migrants engaged in serious crimes.
Trump's administration also prompted Mexico and Canada to take their roles in border security more seriously.
Critics argue that President Biden could have continued successful Trump-era policies or enacted similar executive orders instead of discarding them immediately upon taking office.
Border towns and cities nationwide have felt the repercussions of the border crisis, which has also provided opportunities for fentanyl smugglers to operate.
Banks emphasized, "Border Patrol always knew how to secure the border," highlighting the need for a president and leadership that prioritize border security.
The Biden administration is being blamed for perpetuating the border crisis over four years, while Trump's swift actions brought it to an end.
Public opinion reflects a significant decline in trust and approval for the Democratic Party as a result.
