Two Arrested in Connection with Series of Suspicious Fires in Norfolk County
Residents in Haldimand County can breathe a little easier following the arrest of two individuals linked to a recent string of arson incidents. Tait, a spokesperson for the local authorities, confirmed that the investigation currently suggests the two suspects have been identified and are deemed responsible for the arson spree.
Matthew Smith, 30, and Chad Reimer, 43, were taken into custody shortly after emergency services were dispatched to a fire occurring in a vacant barn located on Lynn Valley Road, which is situated east of Highway 6, on Sunday evening around 10:30 p.m.
A coordinated response involved officers from the Norfolk and Haldimand OPP, the OPP crime unit, the West Region OPP emergency response team, and members of the Haldimand County fire department, who all arrived at the scene to manage the situation.
Just a few minutes after the fire was reported, police intercepted a pickup truck on Concession 12 Townsend in Norfolk County. This vehicle matched the description of one observed near a suspicious fire in Norfolk from November of the previous year.
The investigation has been extensive, with officials examining 13 suspicious fires that have occurred in Norfolk since late October. A joint task force was established to pursue those responsible for these incidents.
