Pharmacy leaders warn of dangers from online weight-loss injections
Pharmacy leaders have issued a fresh warning regarding the online sale of weight-loss jabs, emphasising the ongoing risk to patient safety.
The National Pharmacy Association (NPA) has advocated for stricter regulations in a letter directed to regulators. They have expressed concerns about individuals with a history of eating disorders or those with already low body weight receiving incorrect prescriptions for these drugs.
They assert that a two-way consultation lasting at least 20 minutes is essential for patients instead of solely relying on online questionnaires to determine eligibility for medications such as Wegovy or Mounjaro.
"It is also crucial to ensure that clinical decisions related to weight loss injections are not swayed by financial targets or incentives," stated NPA chairman Nick Kaye.
