The Compton rapper wore an "a minor" pendant throughout his performance, signalling his rivalry with Drake as he delivered his popular diss track "Not Like Us." Kendrick intensified the rivalry by mentioning Drake by name and reiterating his controversial claims.
Audience members observed that Kendrick's stage setup resembled the buttons of a Sony PlayStation controller, further adding to the playful competition.
As the performance concluded, Kendrick repeatedly stated, "Turn this TV off," while mimicking the action of holding a remote, culminating in a dramatic moment where all the lights went out except for a faint display that formed the words "GAME OVER."
Shelley Rodgers, the show's art director, commented, "I think that was symbolic, his way to reach young people. A lot of it is showing his journey, traveling through the American dream." However, some fans believe the symbolism was directed towards his feud with Drake, suggesting that Kendrick was signalling it was "game over" for his rival.
