Young Aussie landlord attributes $1.6 million property success to second job at BP
Harley Giddings, a 24-year-old landlord, has successfully acquired a property portfolio worth $1.6 million through his extra job at BP, earning between $25,000 and $30,000 annually.
24-year-old Harley Giddings has successfully acquired three investment properties valued at $1.6 million, largely thanks to his employment at BP. This young landlord from North Melbourne is preparing to purchase his fourth property soon.
In reaction to the increasing cost of living, many Australians are taking on additional employment. Giddings stated that there was "zero chance" of his success without the "easy" job at BP.
"Having a key second job is so important. I go there and I switch off, make a few coffees, serve some customers, and clean. It's a pretty stress-free type of job," he explained.
Giddings earns $45 per hour for weekend shifts and $35 per hour for midweek shifts at BP, bringing in between $25,000 and $30,000 annually from this secondary job.
In addition to his casual work, he is a full-time associate mortgage broker with a salary of $72,000 annually, plus an $8,800 bonus from the previous year. He averages 20 to 25 hours per week at BP, resulting in a total work schedule of 60 to 65 hours weekly.
Despite the demanding hours, Giddings has maintained his job at BP for five years. He mentioned how people often questioned why he hadn’t quit.
There are two main reasons for his decision to stay. Firstly, the extra income has enhanced his borrowing power, making it possible for him to invest in properties. Secondly, he described the job as "honestly the easiest money you'll ever earn."
"$45 an hour on weekends is pretty crazy money for how easy the work is. Working six and a half hours on a Sunday for about $300 is a substantial sum," he added.
Giddings recently shared a video about his BP earnings, leaving many Australians surprised by the attractive wages available.
