US Postal Service Suspends and Quickly Resumes Package Deliveries from China and Hong Kong
Late on Tuesday, the US Postal Service (USPS) announced the suspension of package deliveries from China and Hong Kong. This decision created significant concern within the global logistics sector. However, less than 24 hours later, the USPS reversed its decision, allowing deliveries to resume.
This turnaround is indicative of the chaos and confusion instigated by the torrent of executive orders from President Donald Trump. Many of these orders appear to be issued without consideration of their practical implementation.
Last month, Trump declared his intention to impose a 10 per cent tariff on imports from China, alongside a 25 per cent tariff on goods from Mexico and Canada, set to take effect on February 1. Notably, the ban on duty-free shipments from these countries was not prominently discussed at that time.
While he chose to pause the tariffs on Mexico and Canada earlier this week, the tariffs on Chinese imports remain in effect, including the ban on duty-free imports.
