Rick Ardon and Susannah Carr are celebrating 40 years as the heralded news duo at Seven News, inviting West Australians to share their memories of their enduring connection with the audience.
West Australians are being invited to share their memories of the iconic news duo Susannah Carr and Rick Ardon as they commemorate 40 years of presenting the Seven bulletin together.
Ardon and Carr debuted their partnership on January 24, 1985, and they are certified by Guinness World Records as the longest-serving news anchor duo, a recognition formalised in 2022.
To mark this remarkable milestone, viewers can visit 7news.com.au starting at 6am on Sunday to submit their stories and memories of Carr and Ardon. Some selected anecdotes will be showcased on television or in print.
In her writing for STM, long-time friend and colleague Alison Fan reflects on the deep bond the duo has cultivated with their viewers throughout thousands of bulletins.
Fan, an esteemed journalist who has known Ardon and Carr since their early days, noted that she is frequently asked about the pair by both friends and acquaintances.
"When their faces are literally in your face, on your television in your home at six o'clock every night of the week for some 40 years, it creates a unique bonding and relationship that has thrived and flourished for generations of West Australian viewers," Fan elaborated.
She further remarked, "They just feel like family. It is rare that any public personality can sustain that level of connection for four decades."
Fan attributes their success to "professionalism, dedication, care and sheer hard work".
She praised them for not just reading the news but for their commitment to accuracy and presentation, ensuring they provide reliable information while maintaining a professional appearance.
"An old-school emphasis on correct dress, correct grammar, correct pronunciation, correct facts and appropriate tone and intonation allows them to seamlessly shift their delivery from serious to lighthearted topics," remarked Fan.
Their comforting presence on television is akin to that of a favourite couch, she concluded.
A special half-hour television program featuring the duo is set to air on Seven at 7pm on February 26.
