Papua New Guinea Bids Farewell to Founding Father Sir Julius Chan
In a display of tradition and custom, Papua New Guinea will complete seven days of mourning today with the burial of one of the country's founding fathers.
The late, Sir Julius Chan will be laid to rest in his home village in New Ireland. All this was according to his will, where he requested to be buried at his village of Huris far away from Port Moresby where his legacy remains strong.
"A large group of Southern Highlanders living in New Ireland, painted their faces with mud and walked in to present their gifts to Sir Julius's family," said ABC Correspondent Belinda Kora.
"Many of the mothers could not hold back their tears in what was seen as a very emotional journey back to where it all began."
