Philadelphia Eagles Prepare for Super Bowl with Focus on Tush Push Play
The Philadelphia Eagles arrive at Super Bowl LIX with their key short-yardage play, the "tush push," under scrutiny. Quarterback Jalen Hurts downplays its exciting name, calling it merely a quarterback sneak.
The Philadelphia Eagles have arrived in New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX, with their successful short-yardage play known as the "tush push" stealing the spotlight.
The "tush push" involves quarterback Jalen Hurts lining up under center and being pushed across the line to gain or to score a touchdown. This play significantly helped the Eagles two years ago, extending drives and leading them to the Super Bowl.
Despite the excitement around the play, Hurts prefers a more straightforward approach, referring to it simply as the quarterback sneak. "That's what you call it. I call it the quarterback sneak," Hurts stated.
During the 2023 season, the "tush push" was successfully executed in nearly every instance, only being stopped four times. This has sparked discussions about potentially banning the play, but NFL executive Troy Vincent disagreed, saying, "Don't punish a team that strategically does it well."
As they head into the Super Bowl, the Eagles' opponents, the Kansas City Chiefs, will look to develop strategies to counteract this effective short-yardage tactic.
