Pam Bondi Advances in Senate Confirmation for Attorney General Position
Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas, spoke on 'Hannity' about President-elect Donald Trump's Cabinet nominees, highlighting how they responded to questions during their Senate confirmation hearings.
President Trump's attorney general nominee, Pam Bondi, is set to move on to a final Senate floor vote for confirmation after senators voted to invoke cloture and limit the remaining floor debate.
Bondi, the former Florida attorney general with 18 years of prosecutorial experience in Hillsborough County, received acclaim for her composure during a nearly six-hour confirmation hearing. Her ability to navigate challenging and politically sensitive topics impressed both her supporters and skeptics.
If confirmed, Bondi emphasized that her main objective is to enforce federal law without political biases. She reiterated several times during her discussions with lawmakers, "Politics has to be taken out of this system." Bondi expressed concern regarding the previous politicization of the Department of Justice, stating, "This department has been weaponized for years and years and years, and it has to stop."
Bondi's poise and expertise earned her widespread support from Republicans and some Democrats, who previously voted in favor of her nomination. The recent vote clears her nomination for a full Senate vote.
Her qualifications also received backing from over 110 former senior officials at the Justice Department, including notable figures such as former U.S. attorneys general John Ashcroft, Jeff Sessions, Bill Barr, and Edwin Meese. They expressed their "strong and enthusiastic support" for Bondi, citing her dedication to the rule of law and her experience as Florida’s attorney general as key reasons for her candidacy.
Many former Republican and Democratic state attorneys general also endorsed her, asserting in a letter that their direct collaboration with Bondi provides them with confidence in her qualifications for the Attorney General role.
