Aircraft Incident Halts Operations at Washington Reagan National Airport
An aircraft went down near Ronald Reagan National Airport on Wednesday night, prompting an immediate halt to all takeoffs and landings, according to airport officials and law enforcement.
Multiple helicopters, including those from the U.S. Park Police, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, and U.S. military, were deployed to the scene of the incident in the Potomac River. D.C. Fire and EMS reported on X that fireboats were also present at the site.
Authorities, including Washington, D.C., police, stated on X that various agencies are involved in a search and rescue operation following the aircraft crash.
Footage from an observation camera at the nearby Kennedy Center captured what appeared to be two sets of lights resembling aircraft merging into a fireball.
The airport confirmed that emergency personnel are responding to "an aircraft incident on the airfield."
