Julianne Moore expresses sadness over Trump's ban on Freckleface Strawberry in military schools
Julianne Moore is saddened by the Trump administration's decision to ban her book, Freckleface Strawberry, from US military schools due to its review of materials related to gender ideology.
Julianne Moore has voiced her deep sadness upon learning that the Trump administration has banned her children's book, Freckleface Strawberry, from schools operated by the US Department of Defence.
Recently, the Department of Defence Education Activity (DoDEA), which oversees a global network of approximately 160 schools for military families, announced it would be removing and reviewing books that might relate to gender ideology or discriminatory equity ideology topics. Moore believes her book has fallen under this comprehensive review.
In a statement shared on Instagram on Sunday, Moore described the decision as a significant shock. She expressed her sentiments regarding her book:
"Freckleface Strawberry is a semi-autobiographical story about a seven-year-old girl who dislikes her freckles but eventually learns to live with them when she realises that she is different 'just like everybody else'. It is a book I wrote for my children and for other kids to remind them that we all struggle, but are united by our humanity and our community."
