Family Offers Regional Victorian Home for $5000 with Relocation Requirement
The Shiells family in regional Victoria is selling their home for $5000 on the condition that the buyer relocates it. The family is moving into a new house they have built.
Brenton Shiells and his wife Ashlee are selling their regional Victorian family home for just $5000, but there’s a catch: the buyer must come and collect it.
The family, which includes their two children, son Chase, 8, and daughter Charlee, 4, along with their three border collies, has nearly completed building their dream home on their Bamawm property.
Rather than bulldozing their original home, Brenton hopes to assist another family in need by offering the three-bedroom, one-bathroom house for relocation, instead of them "spending $500,000 building a new one from scratch".
While the house has been a comfortable residence for the family, Mr Shiells mentioned that it would require restumping. However, he noted that this wouldn’t be a significant issue upon relocation, as new stumps would be ready. “But everything in there is working,” he stated.
Despite some cracking in the plasterwork over time, the underlying frame is in good condition, according to the owner. He drew inspiration from others who have successfully relocated homes and highlighted that the house was previously used in the cult Aussie film, The Castle, which was also moved to a new location.
That iconic residence was sold at auction for $40,000 and has since become a treasured piece of Australian film history. The Shiells family is prepared to transfer their old home starting April 1 this year.
